If you are transporting something longer than the forks on your truck, it may be a good idea to use fork extension.
It is an easy way to add some extra length to existing forks.
Toyota Material Handling offers fork extensions from two different suppliers, one of them offers fork extensions in pairs, while the other offers individually, if there is no need for a pair.
This is one of the best ways to handle difficult goods, suitable for temporary transport of loads longer than the existing forks. The fork extensions we offer are made of strong steel and are of very good quality.
Our fork extensions are adapted to most original forks.
There are two different mail types: Open and Closed versions. These two versions refer to different supports on the two different centres of gravity on the forks.
Both types have a construction that complies with ISO 13284 and EC machinery directive incl. CE-sign.
The fork extensions are manufactured out of extra high-grade steel which allows for lower weight and slimmer models,
To find the extension that fits and is apporoved for you original forks, measure the width, thinkness (at the angle of the fork) and length.
The formula used to find the approved length is:
Existing fork length / 0.6 = Approved length extension forks.
The fork extensions has to be supported by the fork to a minimum 60% fo its total length.
Fork example: Fork length: 1200 mm / 0.6 = 2000 mm.
The load capacity of the fork extension must be adjusted to the individual fork
Should you choose Open or Closed fork extensions?
Closed fork extensions are adapted to ordinary euro pallets and load carriers with a larger opening on the underside.
These are better for a stabilization and strong areas under the pallet and are more adapted to handling loads that have their weight center outside what the original forks cover.
Closed version (closed underside) for transporting loads whose centre of gravity could lie outside the basic fork.
Open fork extensions build less on the underside, which makes it easier for them to lift goods that do not have a large opening or adapted opening on the underside.
These extensions are more adapted to loads that are longer than the fork extension and provide a more stable support on the front of the forks when the weight is well distributed over the entire load.
More manageable, easier to put on / take off, mounting and securing.
Open version (open underside) Solely for transporting loads that are distributed over the entire length of the fork extension.
Mounted and secured on the forks
A common feature of all fork extensions is that they can be easily mounted and secured on the forks. They are mounted by sliding them on the existing forks and attach a safety pin to prevent them from slipping off. The fork extensions are also well marked with which way they are to be mounted, so that it is ensured that it is done straight the first time.
