Back in 1947, Ivar Bryntse, also associated with the creation of the Euro pallet, came up with the idea of the hydraulic pallet lifter. Exactly twenty years later, industrial designer Rune Monö presented the lifter’s ground-breaking and often copied design, setting the world standard for the hand pallet truck.
Based on Toyota’s Kaizen principle, the Toyota Lifter design has been overhauled several times over the years to continuously improve its performance and it has become a universal truck suitable for all types of applications with million units worldwide.

With our aim to reach Net Zero across scope 1, 2 & 3 by FY2041, we are constantly looking for alternatives to reduce the environmental impacts of our products. For instance, by introducing the use of recycled steel, produced with fossil-free electricity and fuels, for our most common hand pallet trucks, we reduce the carbon footprint significantly compared to products made with virgin steel. Our journey continues by exploring future opportunities of carbon-free alternatives and solutions for our truck range.

Carefully assembled and continuously tested, it’s proven that other hand pallet trucks wear out and need to be replaced up to five times quicker than a Toyota Lifter. Regular hand pallet truck maintenance is essential for maximising uptime and guaranteeing the safety of your workforce. Manual pallet trucks from Toyota have a long service life because they are built with up to 12 greasing points to allow lubrication, they have solid pushrods and robotised welding of the frames. Operating hand pallet trucks
Hand pallet trucks from Toyota offer several advantages, including ease of use, reduced physical strain on operators, cost-effectiveness, and manoeuvrability in tight spaces. Toyota Lifters can be used anywhere a load needs to be moved, and this without having to charge a battery.
Toyota manual low lifters are versatile and can be used in a wide range of environments, including warehouses, distribution centres, retail stores, manufacturing facilities, and more.
To operate a Toyota hand pallet truck safely, start by ensuring the load is evenly distributed on the forks. Pump the handle to lift the load slightly, then steer the pallet truck carefully. Always park the truck safely. Toyota Lifters can optionally be fitted with a handbrake.
For uneven floors bogie fork wheels are the best choice. They offer smoother drive and more stability. The load is distributed between several wheels, decreasing the point load and point friction and causing less individual wheel wear.
The truck specifications remain the same, you get the same quality and performance you expect of a Toyota hand pallet truck.
The Toyota Lifters with ZEROsteel and reduced carbon footprint are marked with a “with ZEROsteel” sticker and QR code. There are no other visible differences nor performance differences.

Load handling and pallet stacking
The standard Toyota Lifter hand trucks come with 2300 kg load capacity. A heavy-duty model to move 3000 kg is also available.
In most cases, hand pallet trucks are used to handle EURO pallets from the short side. With many different dimensions of the fork carriage, Toyota can deliver the right manual truck for your load carrier (half pallets, low pallets, ...).
Typical fork length is 1150 mm, ideal to handle pallets 1200 mm long such as the EU pallet. Hand trucks can also be equipped with shorter forks for easy handling of the EURO pallet from the long side or other load carriers for half-pallets.
Applications with special requirements
The choice of fork wheels depends on the type of application, usage intensity and the type of surface. Toyota offers:
- Nylon: for heavy loads and easy rolling on hard, even floors
- Polyuretane: preferred when a low noise level is required
- Iron: suitable for heavy industry
- Powerthane: for lower noise and high wear resistance
- Rubber: very quiet and better grip on wet/slippery floor
The Toyota Lifter range offers different models for humid and wet environments: the Toyota Lifter with wet specification and Toyota Lifter Galvanised.
